Guidelines for Group

This group is a supportive network to help you as you work towards a diet-free life. This group supports the principles of Health at Every Size (HAES), body acceptance, intuitive eating and eating disorder recovery. This is NOT the place to debate those principles or question their validity. It's a group for people who are in favour of those principles and want support in learning more and putting them into practice in their lives. Asking questions and being open to learning is more than welcome, but undermining our core values is not.

PLEASE NOTE:

Respect other group members

Help create a community of respect by listening, supporting, sharing your own wins, and by disagreeing respectfully if you have a different perspective or experience than what is being shared. If you are comfortable doing so, please advise the group of your gender pronoun(s).

Language guidelines

Since we welcome people at all stages of change or recovery, and since we don’t have formal assessments of our members, we do use language guidelines to help ensure groups are safe for everyone. These guidelines are in place not because certain topics are shameful or shouldn’t be discussed, but because based on client feedback, they can be very triggering and compromise the safety of groups. As a result, the following topics are off-limits:

Eating disorder diagnoses and symptoms (including exercise behaviours)

Specific foods, restaurants, and diets

Numbers (e.g. weights, calories, kilometres, etc.)

Direction of weight changes

Details about experiences of trauma

Broad language can be used (e.g. referring to being more or less symptomatic, experiencing a weight change, or having a trauma history), but please do not name specifics. We encourage discussion focused on processing emotions, sharing skills and coping strategies, and reflecting on group content.

Please review the group guidelines prior to posting/commenting. If you’re unsure whether or not something would be appropriate to post and want to check, you can private-message Alissa or Brenna through Facebook messenger. If you believe a post violates the guidelines or you would like a trigger warning added, feel free to request it of the original poster, or use the “report post” function to report it to the admins.

Group admins reserve the right to remove members who violate the group guidelines.
